Bichon Frises Puppies - Why Spay/Neuter?

Bichon Frises are spayed/neutered sometimes. It is done to exclude dogs that do not conform to the breed standard. Such Bichons cannot be shown in a conformation ring. In fact, a show ring is meant for better selection of species to improve the breed.

Irresponsible breeders do not seem to care about the breed at all. They fail to spay/neuter dogs that are poor breeding stock. Hence, the number of puppies from backyard breeders grows every year, which is surely not instrumental in the Bichon Frise's betterment.

Spayed/neutered Bichon Frise puppies can make wonderful pets. There is no need to worry that they will have unacceptable personality traits or display behavioral disorders. In fact, spayed/neutered Bichons are as sweet and friendly as other dogs.

There is a widespread misconception that spayed/neutered Bichons experience health problems, for instance overweight. The truth is that any dog that is fed a high-fat diet and does not get its portion of exercise tends to gain weight.

The pluses of spaying/neutering are obvious. Males become much quieter since sexual urges vanish. They seem to be more attentive to their owners and are not easily disturbed during training sessions. You are also unlikely to have a lot of dogs pursuing your female Bichon at season.

As for the operation, it is rather simple and does not cost much. Any veterinarian can perform it and will advise you when it is better to do. The surgery will not be painful for your dog and in no way will harm it psychologically. With this in mind discuss this issue with your veterinarian and spay/neuter Bichon Frises if they are not going to be used in breeding.
